Pediatric Home Service (PHS) Named Quality Respiratory Care Provider

Pediatric Home Service has been named a Quality Respiratory Care Provider by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). PHS received the recognition under a new AARC national recognition program aimed at making sure residents cared for by homecare organizations have access to respiratory care services provided by qualified respiratory therapists.

“This recognition means first rate care in the eyes of the respiratory consumer,” said Mark Hamman, a PHS Senior Vice President. “PHS is proud of this designation as it demonstrates we have met strict safety and quality standards in caring for our patients.”

To qualify for the recognition, PHS demonstrated that it:

    Employs only respiratory therapists that are either legally recognized by the state for respiratory care competency or credentialed;
    Has respiratory therapists available to patients 24 hours every day;
    Maintains specific written procedures designating other personnel qualified to perform specific respiratory therapy procedures, and the amount of supervision required for them to perform those procedures,
    Is accredited by a nationally recognized, third party accreditation organization.

Begun in 2003 to help consumers make informed choices about heath care, the program grew out of growing concerns among health care leaders and the general public regarding the safety and quality of health care services. Organizations that meet the Quality Care Respiratory Recognition (QRCR) requirements provide a level of respiratory care consistent with national standards.

The program initially enrolled hospitals and has since added homecare organizations and long-term care facilities.

Pediatric Home Service, based in St. Paul Minn., is an independent pediatric homecare company committed to taking care of the child by providing specialized health care services to technology-supported children in their home. In business since 1990, PHS has partnered with healthcare professionals and family caregivers to deliver care to children with special medical needs.
